Within 5 minutes, you can be at Roan Mountain State Park or drive 5-10 minutes to hike the Appalachian Trail. Head up to Carvers Gap just below Roan Mountain High Knob where you can hop out and enjoy a short walk to a scenic view of both the TN and NC mountains or visit the famous Rhododendron Gardens in season. Campsite also boasts energizing, private hike up to Heaton Ridge.Want to spend the day kayaking or canoeing? Head to Wilbur Lake, about a 30 minute drive away from our campsite. Exploring Laurel Falls is only a 20 minute drive away. Blue Ridge Parkway, Blowing Rock, and Grandfather Mountain in N.C. are about 30-45 minutes away. The Smokey Mountains, Gatlinburg, and Dollywood are about a 2 hour drive through amazing mountain views. The annual Rhododendron Festival takes place minutes away. Bristol Motor Speedway is about an hour away, an easy drive with little traffic.Supplies can be found at the state park camp store or in town at Redi-Mart or Dollar General. Water is available down by barn via spring-fed spigot. Our John Deere Gator is available for the duration of your stay. Please arrive before sundown so we can meet you the first time you stay to show you the way and make sure you are comfortable driving Gator. We will have you follow us up to the campsite and from there you can come and go and just leave the Gator by your car near the barn when you are out and about and when checking out.A small Bluetti power charging station will be available in the tent (for light charging of cell phones, other) which can be recharged by the barn if used heavily. A full-size grill with one side burner and propane tank has been added to the site along with pots, a frying pan and utensils is also included in the site. Another small propane tank is provided for the radiator in the tent. A 10x10 canopy tent covers the picnic table area next to the cooking area.Public bathroom with shower and toilet are now available by barn. Note: You may hear our lovely blue tick dog, Dolly, or Duke, our boxer-coon mix occasionally. There are also bees making their delicious local honey in a nearby hives on the lower side on the property beyond the barn.

Toe River to which you have private access. These pristine waters host a breeding population of Hellbenders, as well as trophy-sized Brown and native Brook trout. Your senses will be overwhelmed with the refreshing, Earthy-coniferous smell of the forest and the sound of the bubbling creek right by your tent and fire pit. Imagine falling into a restorative sleep to the music of the rushing waters. Wake up refreshed and stroll down to the private bank to take a dip, cast in a line or launch kayaks on the river. Among the extras we offer is a Finnish-style sauna experience (perfect for relaxing after a day of hiking). Other than our home (which you can make out through the dense understory) there really isn't much of any one else around. But you may see otters, beavers and Bald Eagles among other wildlife. We're also the perfect jumping-off point for exploring all that the North Carolina High Country has to offer. Things to do nearby: Hike Elk River Falls, Linville Falls, Roan Mountain40 minutes to Grandfather Mountain, Banner Elk (Home of the Wooly Worm Festival) and the Ski Slopes at Sugar MountainRelax at Linville Falls Winery or Bierdock Craft Brewery in downtown Spruce Pine (both 15 minutes away) 20 minutes to the Blue Ridge Parkway at the Museum of North Carolina Minerals at Gillespie Gap (Milepost 331) 30 minutes to Emerald Village, a gem, mining, and historical attractionA little over an hour to Asheville; 75 minutes to Mt. Mitchell; 90 Minutes to Wilkesboro (home of Merlefest)We have four friendly dogs who enjoy the woods. Well-behaved canines (UTD on vaccines) are welcome and we have food and water bowls at the campsite. There are laying hens and a feral cat colony (all neutered) on our property and lots of wildlife, so this might not be the best place for a dog with high prey drive. The campsite is also well-appointed: aside from many amenities listed elsewhere, we also provide a seasoned Dutch oven (with single-use liners), skewers for roasting hotdogs or marshmallows and two army-style cots.

Watauga River Paradise Ledges Landing by Tentrr

Nearby you'll find plenty of outdoorsy and adventurous things to do. All within a 20-minute drive, you'll find Buffalo Mountain Park and Jacob's Nature Park for some nice hikes with wildlife, creeks to walk over, and blooming plants. Johnson City and Elizabethton are within a short drive where you'll find restaurants and some shops. You can fish on the river, but please be mindful of the water level -see generating schedule. Swimming is at your own risk. There is steep grade and you will need all wheel drive to make it back up. Drive directly to the site at your own risk. Otherwise parking from site is about no more than a 1/4 mile, about a five minute walk. Firewood is included. DO NOT DRIVE DOWNHILL UNLESS YOU HAVE SPOKEN WITH THE OWNERS TRUST ME RECOVERY ISNT EASYCentrally located on the property and off of the main trail you'll find our Tentrr campsite. The site has amazing views in the Fall and Winter. An easy walk to get to the water falls, just be sure and don't trip over all the Quartz. You'll find plenty of hiking trails nearby to explore all within 20 minutes! The Blowing Rock tourist attraction is about 25 minutes from the site. Restaurants and shops are about a 20 minute drive into the town of Blowing Rock, you'll find a variety of great food options. Parking from site is about a less than 5 minute walk.

While you are there, you may want to visit the Birthplace of Country Music Museum, the Paramount Center for the Arts and the Cameo Theater. More of a lake or outdoorsy person? Through all seasons, it is truly amazing offering plenty of nearby activities like hiking, mountain biking, swimming, and hang gliding. In just 20 minutes you can be in the town of Lenoir or head 30 minutes to Blowing Rock. Both towns offer various restaurants and shops to explore. Near Blowing Rock, there is Grandfather mountain (famous for a mile high swinging bridge). Campers are welcome to hike around the fields and play in the creek. There are numerous walking trails. You can also hike up the Butte Mountain road and stand on our hang gliding launch. The other Tentrr campsite is Wilderness retreat and it's located further up the hollow from Sunrise View. Campers enter the property from the Zacks Fork Road, cross a cement bridge and park parallel to the shipping container. From there, it is a short walk (approximately 1000 feet) to either camp site.

It's likely you will not be camping alone as deer are abundant. This private 100 acre property borders the Jefferson National Forest and is thick with hardwoods and pine trees which create a surreal quiet experience. However, the cleared campsite area allows unobstructed mountain views and sunsets your friends will envy. There are no neighborhoods insight. No traffic noise, just singing birds and the occasional moos from cows at the neighboring farm. If too much peace and quiet and sitting around is not your thing there are several nearby attractions including access to the Appalachian Trail (beautiful stream with nice hiking trail and access point within 10 minute drive), sightseeing at the Big Walker lookout tower (10-15 minute drive), a visit to Dismal Falls (30 minute drive), hiking, or biking on the New River Trail or the famous Virginia Creeper Trail (30 minute drive). The nearby town of Wytheville (20 minute drive) has lovely small town shops & fun brewery scene and nearby winery. Visit one of the nearby Amish markets and enjoy homemade treats (several within 30 minute drive).
