Grahams Island State Park is located on the ever-changing shores of Devils Lake. This hidden treasure is heavily wooded and surrounded by miles of lakeshore. Campers will enjoy the large shaded campsites, in one of the only non-seasonal campgrounds in the area. The unique landscape of the lake makes it a hot spot for world-class fishing. The park hosts numerous national and regional fishing tournaments during the year. Grahams Island caters to anglers with an array of resources including a bait shop, a four-lane boat ramp and a fish cleaning station.Visitors can enjoy a day on the lake, take a stroll on the hiking trails, swimming at the beach or hang out at the visitors center. In the winter, visitors can explore over three miles of groomed cross-country ski trails, explore the park on snowshoes and have excellent access to the lake for ice fishing activities.

Turtle River State Park

Constructed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), Turtle River State Park is located in a beautiful, wooded valley along the meandering Turtle River. The park features year-round recreational activities, including camping, picnicking, hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing and sledding.Park guests enjoy shaded picnic areas and secluded camping sites. There are over 12 miles of trails carved through the forested hills and along the Turtle River. Anglers can also practice their fly fishing techniques in the trout-stocked river.Perfect for weddings, family reunions and other group activities is the spacious Woodland Lodge, with its kitchen and dining hall. The upstairs of the Chalet/Warming House is also available to rent for just about any type of group function. The CCC Memorial Shelter offers a picturesque setting and is popular for wedding and large group picnics. Turtle River State Park's Woodland Cabins are a good option for larger groups. The cabins are duplexes with a total of 10 units. These seasonal cabins are available mid-May to mid-September, weather permitting. Eight units sleep six each, bunkbed-style, while Elm A & B are wheelchair accessible and sleep three each. All units are equipped with air conditioning, heat, a private shower and a toilet. These cabins do not have kitchen amenities

North Dakota’s homesteading spirit is evident at Icelandic State Park, located on the shores of Lake Renwick. Established in 1964, this 912-acre park allows visitors to learn about the state’s early settlement and provides an array of recreational opportunities. Boating, swimming, and fishing are a few favorite summer activities while snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are popular during the winter. Picnic areas enable visitors to enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the shade of old oak trees.Within the park, visitors will find a number of restored historic buildings including Akra Community Hall and Hallson Church. Visitors can walk through the Pioneer Heritage Center that houses exhibits and hosts programing that highlights North Dakota’s homesteading years. A library is also open to the public offering resources on local and family histories.Visitors can also spend time exploring the three-mile trail system in North Dakota’s first dedicated state nature preserve, Gunlogson Nature Preserve. The 200-acre natural wooded area along the Tongue River is a sanctuary for plants, birds, and wildlife. More than a dozen rare species exist in the preserve, ranging from Watermeal to Bishop’s Cap. The preserve also contains rare birds such as the Pileated Woodpecker and Western Wood-Pewee.Icelandic State Park is home to three seasonal camping cabins. The Pine Cabin is located in the North Loop Campground, the Aspen is located in the South Loop Campground and the Oak Cabin is located in the West Loop Campground. These camping cabins each sleep five with one full and three twins, set up bunkbed style. Each cabin is equipped with lights, heat, air conditioning, mini fridge and a deck. Cooking is not allowed inside, but a grill and picnic table are located outside of each cabin. The cabins do not have showers, sinks or toilets, but most are within a short walk to a campground comfort station. Camping cabins are generally available from May 19-September 30.There is also a campground with 140 modern campsites, 7 groups sites and 10 primitive campsites.
