Rules & regulations

IRON CREEK LAKE RULES & POLICIES

By camping at Iron Creek Lake either in a tent, RV or cabin, you agree to abide by the following rules and policies.

AMENITIES: Iron Creek Lake is accessed via 12 miles of gravel road south of Spearfish. While the road is wide and generally accessible by all sizes of vehicles, its condition is dependent on weather and wear. The rustic campground overlooks the lake and offers electrical hookups, but extension cords may be required. Potable water is available from several faucets in the campground, and a dump station is available onsite. A long, separate hose will be required to both fill and dump. The campground offers outdoor toilets but no shower facilities.

LOCATION: The quickest way to access Iron Creek Lake is to take Exit 8 off Interstate 90 on the west edge of Spearfish and head south. McGuigan Road turns into Tinton Road (134) a couple miles south. After traveling about 13 miles south, a wooden sign will indicate where to turn right or west onto Beaver Creek Road. Just a half mile or so down this road, and another wooden sign marks a left-hand turn onto Iron Creek Road which leads directly to the lake. The lake can also be accessed from Spearfish Canyon by following the signs just west of Roughlock Falls.

STORE: Open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Memorial Day through Labor Day. The store sells camping and fishing supplies and serves snacks beverages breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

EMAIL: [email protected]

CAMPING. Check in at the store prior to setting up camp. Check in is at 3 p.m. Check out is at 11 a.m. Must be 21 and over to rent a cabin or campsite. Pay attention to management instructions for parking to ensure all campers fit in designated spots. Every camp site includes a picnic table and fire ring outside. While all sites have electricity, it isn’t always close by. Campers are encouraged to bring extensions cords. The campground was built decades ago and was adapted to the terrain. The hilly nature of the campground adds to the area’s beauty but can make it challenging to level campers. Be prepared with extra materials and patience. The campground does not have concrete pads nor any pull-through sites, so drivers should be adept at backing up.

CABINS. Check in is at 3 p.m. Check out is at 11 a.m. Holiday weekends require a 3-night reservation. In general, cabins have beds, a small refrigerator, electricity and a small heater inside. Bring your own bedding. Every cabin includes a picnic table and fire ring outside. All furniture and items in cabins must be left as they were found. No moving around furniture. You will be charged $100 for any bed cover taken from the cabin.

TENTS. Any extra tent must be paid for. We charge per tent, not per site. No ditching around tents, or any other digging.

VEHICLES. Speed limit is 10 mph. Only two vehicles are allowed per site. All other vehicles must pay an extra $5/night and park in the parking lot.

QUIET TIME. Quiet time is 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. All visitors need to be gone by 10 p.m. Please respect your neighboring campers. Not everyone enjoys the same music or topics of conversation as you do.

SAFETY. For everyone’s safety, no sling shots, BB guns, firearms, or fireworks in the campground, around the lake, or adjoining areas.

CAMPFIRES. Unless prohibited entirely due to dry conditions, campfires are allowed in designated fire ring only! Fires must remain within the ring. DO NOT MOVE THE RINGS. The management reserves the right to extinguish any unsafe fires. Be sure your fire is out before you leave. Fires may not be left unattended. No trees to be cut for firewood.

RECREATION. Recreational activities are at your own risk.

CLEANING FISH. Do not clean fish by water faucets. Put remains in plastic bag and haul to dumpster. Do not put in garbage cans.

GARBAGE. Pack out what you pack in. Garbage, including cigarette butts, belongs in the trash cans. Leave your spot clean when you leave. Dumpsters are for household trash ONLY. No building materials, appliances, metal, etc. or we risk losing our garbage service.

NO LIABILITY. We are not responsible for accidents, injuries, or losses due to fire, accident, or theft. We reserve the right to refuse service or discontinue service at any time.

MOTORCYCLES & ATVs: No motorcycles or 4-wheelers joy riding around the campground or lake. Ride the trails outside the campground and back to your campsite only. Do not ride to the restrooms or the beach. Stay off the grass. No ATVs past the store unless you are returning to your campsite from your ride. Respect the peace and quiet of the campground; always let common sense and courtesy prevail. ATV trailers must be park as assigned.

PET POLICY. Dogs are welcome in the campground and in cabins for an additional nightly fee. Good behavior is required. Dogs of any breed that are hostile or aggressive will be asked to leave the campground, along with their owners. Bring the leash. Dogs must be kept on leashes no longer than 6 feet when outside their owners’ vehicles or rental units. Do not leave a tethered dog unattended. Due to public health regulations, dogs are not allowed on the sandy or grassy beach area or in the swimming area of the lake. This covers from the fishing dock to the boat area. Remember manners. Constant barking bothers other campers. If your pet is too vocal, you’ll need to find other accommodations.
