Elk Neck State Park is located in Cecil County on a peninsula, formed by the Chesapeake Bay on the west and the Elk River on the east. The park has 2,370 acres of land with varied landscapes that include marshlands, heavily wooded areas, white clay cliffs and sandy shorelines.

The Elk River Camping Area is located on the eastern portion of the peninsula and offers over 250 campsites, 16 cabins (nine mini/camper cabins and seven rustic cabins), a youth group camping area, park store, playground and a nature center.The park store will be staffed on weekends from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Firewood will still be sold.

The Rustic Cabins are closed due to renovations. Disturbances associated with construction should be expected Monday-Friday in the Fall of 2023-​Fall 2025.

Bathhouse Renovations: Starting on October 1, 2023 sites in the Bohemia, Wye, Susquehanna, Choptank, Elk, Miles, Tred Avon, and Chester loops will be closed through December 31, 2024 for bathhouse renovations. We apologize for any inconvenience!

Cancellations and changes to reservations within 24 hours of the date of initial reservation are allowed without an additional fee. Reservation/transaction fees are non-refundable. No refunds will be issued for no-shows/cancellations/early departures after the scheduled date of arrival. To modify or cancel reservations made with a credit card, customers must verify the last four digits of the credit card number. Cancellations made on the scheduled date of arrival must be performed by contacting us.

Camping/Camper cabins/Yurts:

Changes or cancellations made up to the close of business on the day prior to the scheduled date of arrival will require a $4.75 per reservation cancellation service charge (except for reservations at Assateague State Park, which require a $4.75 per night cancellation change service charge). Cancellations or changes made on the scheduled date of arrival will require the payment of one night's camping service charge for each reservation and a $4.75 per reservation cancellation change service charge (except for reservations at Assateague State Park, which will require a $4.75 per night cancellation change service charge). Changes and cancellations will NOT be allowed at Assateague State Park more than 11 months prior to arrival date.

Rules & regulations

General Rules and Important information:

No alcohol is allowed in the camping area.

A maximum of six people can camp at each site.

All camping equipment must be set up on the tent pad.

Vehicles must remain on designated parking areas/driveways.

Visitors must pay the standard day-use charge and must exit the campground by 10 p.m.

Quiet hours are from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m.

Check-in time is between 3 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Check-out times are 11 a.m. for cabins and 1 p.m. for campsites.

To help prevent the spread of destructive forest pests, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources prohibits the importation of personal firewood into all DNR owned and managed properties. Please do not bring firewood with you from home when visiting a DNR property. Firewood may be purchased locally near the park or in many state park campgrounds.

Generator Use: The operation of generators is prohibited during the established quiet hours from 10:00 pm to 7:00 am. At times outside of quiet hours, all aspects of their operation must conform to standards designed to prevent disturbing other visitors and to preserve the peace and tranquility of the park environment.

All pets must be licensed and have all required vaccinations, including a rabies vaccination.

Pets must be leashed. Pets may be off-leash and under voice control while swimming in designated areas or hunting (with the appropriate permit).

Pet owners must clean up after their pet. Waste disposal containers are available in most areas.

Service animals are permitted in all pedestrian areas.

Pets, with the exception of service animals, are not allowed in park buildings.

Pet owners must obey all park signs that prohibit the entry of pets into specific areas.

Excessive barking is not permitted in any park area, especially during campground "quiet hours" (10:00 p.m.- 7:00 a.m.).​​
